Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Juaboso Constituency of the Western Region have threatened to challenge the constituency parliamentary results of Wednesday’s elections in court, raising issues of irregularities.
Agents of the party at the constituency collation centre refused to sign the collated results by the electoral officers Thursday for varied reasons, including a claim that they have identified 2012 pink sheet forms which have been used for Wednesday’s elections.
Notwithstanding the protest, the EC officials went ahead to declare the results which went in favour of the National Democratic Congress candidate, Kwabena Minta-Akandoh who is the incumbent member of parliament in the area.
Mr Minta-Akandoh garnered 17,233 votes to retain the seat while the NPP candidate, Martha Kwayie Manu polled 15,604.
Stephen Mintah Cletron of the National Democratic Party had 164; CPP’s Oppong Ernestina got 111 while PNC’s Abdul-Karim Braimah Ibrahim had 87.
Our correspondent, Abugri Ali Mohammed, who witnessed the collation of the results reported that the agents of the NPP claimed the collation of the results were fraught with irregularities.
