2019-12-312019 in review: Most active government officials of the year
Kweku Ofori Asiamah, Transport Minister, Oppong Nkrumah, Information Minister, and AG, Domelovo
Some government officials over the past 12 months of 2019 have acted according to the demands of their offices and even more.
To this extent, while others, through their work, became subjects of public abuse and scorn, some on the other hand, became targets of government vilification.

Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelovo
The Auditor-General has been the lead character in Ghana’s fight against corruption. His relentless fight against dishonest officials earned him some disdain from a section of Ghanaians. He has also, according to some anti-corruption campaigners, been a target of government scorn considering his rather fierce style of exposing corrupt officials.
Some Ghanaians beamed with pride after he took his fearless fight against corruption to the doorstep of the presidency by surcharging the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo for paying a UK firm - Kroll and Associates Limited - $1 million for no evidence of work done.
But the efforts of the Auditor-General all year round seemed not to have been ‘appreciated’ as it landed him in the traps of EOCO, for alleged procurement breaches.
Information Minister - Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
His proactive leadership in conducting government business has, according to many Ghanaians been quite commendable. From his ministry’s consistent organisation of meet-the-press to the moderation of government events.
Oppong Nkrumah, was also active in serving as a liaison between Ghanaians and the government in the midst of the kidnap and subsequent declaration of death if the four Takoradi girls.
He remained visible and proactive in the kidnap of the two Canadian girls as well. In the midst of the ECG/PDS debacle, the information Minister became a resource person who served Ghanaians with explanations on the issue through the several media interviews he granted.
Transport Minister - Kweku Ofori Asiamah
His efforts in contributing to the transport sector and curbing road accidents in the country was quite remarkable throughout the year.
This was evident in his tours to the various drivers’ union to educate them on the road safety measures amongst other issues.
One of such includes, his meeting with transport operators at the VIP bus terminal to discuss, among other things, measures to curb such carnage on our roads. Mr Ofori Asiamah’s due diligence to his work, according to some drivers is worthy of praise.
Communications Minister - Ursula Owusu-Ekuful
She earned the name ‘Wicked witch’ this year for her role in the controversial Communication Service Tax (CST) but that would not stop Ursula Owusu-Ekuful from doing her work as a government official.
She waged ‘war’ against the Minority Spokesperson on Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson for his comments against her in the same CST saga for which Telcos began an upfront deductions on unused data.
Even though her Ministry is currently embroiled in the Kelni GVG contractual scandal, she has remained resolute, vocal and visible in her field.
