The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi says former President John Dramani Mahama is only worried about fears of losing another elections, hence his escalating attacks on the EC Boss.

For him, Mr Mahama cannot prevail in his second attempt to annex the Presidency, even if his wife, Lordina is made the EC Chairperson in the 2020 general elections.

He contended attacks on the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensah by the Flagbearer of the main opposition NDC is baseless.

“His level of defeat in the last elections is massive which tells you his defeat was ordained by God. If it’s about Jean Mensa, what we can tell Mahama is his defeat is imminent and staring in his face in 2020. He cannot beat Akufo-Addo, even if his Wife, Lordina is made the EC Chairperson, because if he was defeated miserably under Charlotte Osei who allegedly was his lover, then it’s quite clear that likewise Lordina as EC Boss can’t save Mahama from defeat. Ghanaians have seen his incompetence and what he put them through under his tenure, so they can’t give him a second chance. It’s over! Wontumi told sit-in host Akwasi Nsiah on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

Mr Mahama recently said the posturing of Mrs Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, does not indicate that she will be neutral in the 2020 polls.

According to him, Mrs Mensa has acted in ways that suggest that representatives of the political parties are a disturbance to the elections management body, a situation he said was unfortunate.

“They need to prove us wrong. We have our doubts that they can be neutral and fair … The current posture and the way they are conducting things makes us doubt that they will be neutral and fair in 2020,” Mr Mahama told Accra-based Citi FM on Monday, 20 May 2019.

Meanwhile, a Deputy Commissioner of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare, has assured former President John Dramani Mahama that the elections management body will not work in the interest of a particular political party at the expense of others.

He said the Commission will be fair to all parties and Ghanaians in general.
