The 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) concluded on July 12 for most of the 560,000 candidates amid reports of exam malpractices.
Eighteen invigilators were arrested for allegedly aiding candidates and violating rules. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) had banned supervisors from using mobile phones at exam centers, but some invigilators ignored this.
Deputy Education Minister Rev. John Ntim Fordjour promised to discipline the involved teachers. WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, mentioned considering hiring its own invigilators.
Students, despite some finding Mathematics and Science challenging, felt relieved and excited to complete their Junior High School education.
