A bullion van belonging to the Bank of Ghana has crashed head-on at the Bono East Regional capital, Techiman Friday afternoon, MyNewsGh.com reports.
Three persons are feared dead in the carnage, eyewitnesses have told this portal.
There was huge vehicular traffic on the main Kumasi-Tamale Highway, as security personnel had mounted barricades to cordon off the scene to prevent the spilt cash Bill’s from being looted, at the time of filing this story.
According to the ASP Andrews Okonengye, the Techiman Divisional Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate the bullion van with registration number GV 888-13 with William Asare as the Driver and one Frank Baah, Currency Officer was heading towards Kumasi from Tamale while the tanker with registration number DP 4222-19 was Paga bound.
The police Chief told MyNewsGh.com that, the driver of the tanker who is deceased, tried swerving a motorbike rider and collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle.
He was unable to confirm the death toll except to say that 2 people were reported to have died while others are said to be in critical condition and have been admitted at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman.
“Yes there has been an accident and we understand that some persons including the tanker driver is dead. We are yet to confirm the number of deaths but there are some of the victims on admission at the hospital”, he revealed.
