A Rocha Ghana and six civil society groups have sued the government over illegal mining in forest reserves, challenging the legality of LI 2462, a 2022 regulation permitting mining in these protected areas.
The coalition argues that LI 2462 was passed without a proper physical impact analysis, violating the Public Financial Management Act.
During a press briefing, A Rocha’s Deputy Director, Daryl Bossu, emphasized their goal of halting mining activities to protect the environment and livelihoods of Ghanaians, as the destruction caused by these activities continues to worsen.
