The Association of Professional Development Communicators (APDC) Ghana has raised alarm over the ongoing illegal mining (galamsey) crisis, calling for urgent government and community action.

They criticized past efforts like Operation Vanguard for failing to provide lasting solutions.

APDC recommends a comprehensive strategy including research into the socio-economic factors driving galamsey, engaging affected communities, reassessing mining licenses, and halting small-scale mining for site rehabilitation.

They also propose creating sustainable job opportunities, particularly for youth.

APDC stresses the need for empathetic, research-based approaches to tackle the crisis and foster positive behavior change in communities.
