Abdul Aziz Mohammed, known in political circles as 'Zongo Commando' has announced plans to team up with winner of the Zongo Caucus Coordinator position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Mohammed Mammah Aremeyaw (Cole Younger) to secure victory for the party in 2020.
He said due to his exposure in the Zongo communities and experience garnered over the years, he would gladly play any instrumental role assigned him by the party.
These comments followed the personal pledge he made to delegates of the party during his nationwide campaign ahead of the recent national elections that he was prepared to work with anyone in the party either in victory or defeat. He also indicated that he would work with those he contested the elections with including Alhaji Cole Younger.
Abdul Aziz Mohammed has also explained that although he lost the elections painfully, the visit to the winner of the polls was to show sportsmanship, and an indication of his preparedness to work with him in the service of the party.
"For me, I was humbled by the outcome of the polls following the defeat suffered. But I also learnt a lesson that when your time is up, the delegates of the party would vote for you. Perhaps it was the right time for the incumbent to retain the position hence the victory chalked", he emphasized.
He said Alhaji Cole Younger had been at the helm of affairs and therefore understood the delegates better, whilst applying his experience to win the hearts of party supporters.
"He had the following, he commanded the support base with his rich experience, and at the end of the day, it all reflected in the outcome of the polls considering the margin of victory recorded" he acknowledged with humility.
Abdul Aziz who secured nearly two thousand votes and came second in the race believes, his time would definitely come and he would serve the party in another capacity.
Therefore, he noted that the votes obtained during the elections thought him two great lessons as the outcome demonstrated "That going forward I must remain in touch with the grassroots, and that I must offer myself to serve the party in any capacity so that when the right time comes, the party would recognize that effort".
The tough talking party activist said he would not heave a sigh of relief until the NDC secures victory in 2020. "All members of the party hitherto sitting on the fence now understand that all hands must be on deck to secure victory for the party".
He revealed that considering what is currently happening in government against the failed campaign promises of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which has pushed many Ghanaians into public debate on performance of appointees, the President, and key government officials, only points to the signs of victory for the NDC in 2020.
"Due to growing hardship, the government has pushed Ghanaians so hard that those who would ordinarily not comment on national issues, are angrily joining public discourse to point out the poor performance of the government. We are not saying it, but he who feels it, knows it better", he stated.
He advised Ghanaians to vent their spleen whenever things don't go down well with them just to position the government on its toes to improve the governance process and help ameliorate hardship in the country.
