Ghanaian students may have been exposed to health risks after expired rice was allegedly repackaged and sent to schools.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa's investigation revealed that over 15,000 bags of expired rice were illegally repackaged at a government-linked facility in Kumasi.
The rice's original packaging, showing a December 2023 expiration date, was swapped for bags without dates, misleadingly labeled as local produce.
The facility, which lacked proper authorization from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), continued operating under alleged political protection.
The importing company, Lamens Investments Africa Ltd, admitted its role and paid part of a fine. These findings have sparked demands for accountability and greater oversight.
