Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Emmanuel Victor Smith, will pick forms today, Wednesday July 20, to file his nomination to run for the governing National Democratic Congress’ primary for the Abuakwa North constituency following the resignation of the party’s elected nominee, Anthony Gyimah.
Mr Smith told Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show Ghana Yensom on Wednesday July 20 that: “I have considered it and today we will pick up the forms.”
Mr Smith first contested the seat in 2012 on the ticket of the NDC. He was beaten by the main opposition New Patriotic Party’s J.B. Danquah-Adu, who was killed on February 9, 2016.
A by-election was held subsequently by the Electoral Commission, which was won by the NPP’s Gifty Twum Ampofo. The NDC boycotted that poll with reason that it wanted to respect the memory of the late MP.
Asked what he made of the MP’s murder, Mr Smith said: “…It’s wrong to kill somebody, it’s not proper to take somebody’s life.”
