Aburi residents call out govt over failure to demolish buildings along Peduase-Aburi stretch

The Ministry of Roads and Highway Authority, in pursuant to timelines set to demolish buildings on the Akuapim Ridge after rains caused rocks on the mountain to fall onto the Peduase-Ayi-Mensah Aburi highway been criticised for failing to fulfill their promise.

In October last year, some parts of the carriageway from Peduase Lodge to Ayi Mensah on the Aburi road got closed to vehicular traffic following a landslide incident which got rocks from the mountains falling onto the roads, preventing road users from using that stretch.

As a safety measure Mr. Amoako Atta, who joined his technical team to assess the situation explained that such human activities, especially the construction on the ridge was a major contributory factor because they were affecting the arrangements and integrity of the sedimentary rocks.

He further promised that he would liaise with the Local government and Rural Development Counterpart to draw the attention of assemblies on the danger of issuing permit for such projects.

Three months down the line, however, no progress has been made as nothing has been done in the area.

Photographs shared by some residents in the area showed that nothing had been done so far with the residents lamenting about the predicament.

A few of them told www.ghanaweb.com that they were unhappy about the situation as they remain unsafe, living in fear every time there is a downpour.
