“We have noticed that there are a lot of households in Ablekuma Central without toilet facilities. So when tenants of such households want to defecate, they usually do it in polythene bags and dump it in gutters. AMA has initiated a policy to ensure that every household will get a toilet facility to promote cleanliness in the society,” Hon. Nartey said.
He promised to financially assist the first 100 people who signed up to have a toilet facility or two in their households.
“AMA has taken charge of the 80%, I will handle the 10% for the first 100 people and they will take care of the 10%,” the Ablekuma Central lawmaker assured.
Last year, the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area Sanitation and Water Project disclosed intentions to provide 5,000 toilets to households in its coverage area.
Mr. George Asiedu, the Project Coordinator said that the Project Coordinating Unit of the Ministry of Local Government would work together with the household toilet promotion teams in the 11 metropolitan and municipal assemblies to ensure that over 12,000 households were provided with the toilets.
Three-storey building for Town Council community
The Ablekuma Central MP added that a three storey-building which will be built near the Town Council bus park will be funded with the District Assembly Common Fund.
The building will feature a washroom, changing room and an office at the first floor; an open space for conferences on the second floor and a community library on the third floor.
The project is likely to be completed at the end of 2018 or early 2019
