Akufo-Addo: Bazoum’s detention by Niger junta ‘completely unacceptable’

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the detention of former Niger President Mohammed Bazoum, who was ousted in a coup on July 26, 2023.

In an interview with France 24 on October 4, Akufo-Addo described the treatment of Bazoum, a democratically elected leader, as "completely unacceptable."

He stressed the importance of securing Bazoum’s release and affirmed ECOWAS' commitment to advocating for his freedom.

Akufo-Addo emphasized that Bazoum’s unconditional release remains a priority for the regional body, and efforts will continue to push for it.
