The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Asiedu Nketia has explained the difference between the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) under President Nana Akufo-Addo and the opposition NDC under erstwhile John Mahama administration in terms of fighting corruption among government appointees perceived to be corrupt.
“Under John Mahama regime, appointees are exposed and punished but for this Akufo-Addo administration, every corrupt appointee is covered by the President himself… corrupt appointees will be cleared by the same President even when investigations are carried into the alleged crime that person has committed” he differentiated.
According to the outspoken NDC chief scribe, who spoke on Kumasi FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, corruption is bound to happen in every government since Presidents do not appoint Angles to help them govern the country.
“It is a fact that in every government, nobody will expect Angels to rule, but when there is corruption, the way matters are handled is very important”, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia pointed out to host, Nana Yaw Mensah Joel while speaking to NDC’s recent press conference that the President Akufo-Addo is practicing nepotism.
“When we say this government is practicing nepotism, we are saying so in respect of fighting corruption among the President’s appointees”, the NDC General Secretary stated.
NDC has once again accused President Akufo-Addo of nepotism, this time, backing it up with names and pictures.
At a press conference a week ago, the communications director of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi allegedly named some 51 individuals who directly related or close to people around the President and have been appointed to positions in the administration.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the press, among Akufo-Addo’s uncountable relatives in government, is Nana Asante Bediatuo, his cousin from Kyebi, who serves as his Executive Secretary. Bediatuo is not alone! He is joined in government by his father, Kofi Darko Asante, who chairs the Governing Council of GIMPA, his mother, Mrs Vida Asante, who is the head of the Presidential Household and his brother, Kwesi Kuntu Asante, who sits on the Board of Ghana Hostels.
In addition, Nana Asante Bediatuo’s sister, Lauretta Asante (marital name, Otchere), is one of the three Deputy Directors-General at SSNIT who have been appointed by this government “Other relatives of President Akufo-Addo who currently occupy various positions in his government include, Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance; Samuel Atta Akyea, Works and Housing Minister; and Kwesi Amoako Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, all of whom are cousins of the President.
Friends from the media, in an unprecedented move, President Akufo-Addo has made his own daughter, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, a member of the Creative Arts Council,” the party said.
According to the NDC, the President has deceived Ghanaians with his campaign promise of not running a family and friends and government.
