Alabi, Goosie storm Parliament to meet MPs

Three presidential aspirants of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday met the party’s MPs in parliament to sell their messages to them and court their support in the upcoming presidential primary on January 26, 2019.

The three aspirants-Joshua Alabi, Goosie Tanoh and Stephen Atubigah-jointly addressed the MPs to sell their visions to them.

Some of the NDC MPs decided not attend the meeting, but a sizeable number of legislators turned up at the Justice Francis Annan Auditorium in the Job 600 Block to listen to the three aspirants in a closed door meeting.

Addressing the press after the meeting, Prof Alabi, who has the tacit support of some gurus of the party from the Volta Region like Victor Gbeho and was full of confidence, said he would beat former President John Mahama in the primary to lead the party in 2020 .

He said his message of mobilizing the grassroots supporters and making them key stakeholders in decision making has been received by the party people.

He indicated that he would resource the grassroots supporters if given the nod.

When the party wins power, consultations will be done with the grassroots people in the appointment of ministers, according to them.

He said the hijacking of campaign logistics by some few individuals to deprive the grassroots from effective campaigning would be a thing of the past.

Prof Alabi revealed that in the 2016 general elections, the youth of the country, especially those with affiliation to the party, deserted the party because they realized that the party had not taken good care of their parents at the grassroots who worked hard for the party.

He pointed out that under his leadership, grassroots supporters would be taken good care of.

According to him, if delegates consider the political and academic credentials of all the aspirants, he would stand tall among them and would the best presidential candidate to win

Goosie Tanoh, on his part, expressed concern about intimidation of his supporters.

He said for unity to prevail in the party after the presidential primary, all aspirants and their supporters should be treated fairly.

Mr. Tanoh revealed that throughout his travels across the country, he had realized that Ghanaians are looking for truthful, transparent and accountable government that would provide jobs for the people.

He said he would provide good governance if elected as the presidential candidate of the NDC by the delegates.

Stephen Atubigah said ex-convicts have proven to be the best presidents in the world, citing Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Dr Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana who distinguished themselves during their tenure.

He, therefore, appealed to former president John Mahama to step down for him because he will become the presidential candidate for the NDC to help create jobs for the youth after being imprisoned.
