The mortal remains of late former Vice President Aliu Mahama is to be flown to Tamale where his interment will take place.
His funeral ceremony just ended at the Black Star Square where various dignitaries including President John Mahama, Former President J.A. Kufuor and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo all paid glowing tributes to his time as a Vice President.
The funeral cortege arrived at about 0905 escorted by the military. The coffin draped in national colours was then wheeled by military pallbearers to the canopy erected at the Square and bedecked with flowers.
Other dignitaries include Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, former President Jerry John Rawlings, the Speaker of Parliament, ministers, senior government officials and many politicians from all political parties were all present at the ceremony.
According to the funeral arrangements, the body would be flown to Tamale by noon for a State burial according to the wishes of his family.
The former vice president passed away on Friday morning at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
