Alumnus mutilated on KNUST campus

Students in neighbouring communities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are currently living in perpetual fear, as thugs and robbers armed with knives and other dangerous implements have invaded their space.

One John Cudjoe, an alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was on Tuesday October 1, 2019, attacked and inflicted with cutlass wounds by two men on a motorbike at Bomso, while returning from choir practice at the Bomso Presbyterian Church.

Narrating his ordeal, Cudjoe said he was accosted around 8:30 pm by two men on a motorbike with a cutlass, amid demands for his phone.

In an attempt to avoid the attack on him, he ended up having his hands and fingers inflicted with wounds by the thugs, who sped off after the assault.

On realising that his fingers had been severed, he ran to an ‘Indomie Joint’ a few metres away in tears, where he was assisted by some students who rushed him to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted.

Some students in the Bomso area, who spoke to The Chronicle after the attack, complained about the low level of security in the area.

The police post located in front of Ultimate Hostel has not helped to stop these thugs from terrorising and robbing students off their possessions, including laptops, phones and money.

The aggrieved students complained that they are living in fear, while those who had been attacked are traumatised.

Cudjoe has, since Friday, been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for surgery, having sustained a torn tendon.

The Bomso Presby Church, it has been gathered, footed Cudjoe’s medical bills at the University Hospital, and is also reportedly mobilising about GH¢2,000 for the surgery at KATH.
