Ernest Frimpong, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi East, has been arrested by the Tarkwa Police in the Western Region following a viral video where he urged miners to attack police and soldiers extorting money from them.
Frimpong previously denied allegations that he and Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah endorsed illegal mining and resistance against military personnel.
He claimed his comments during a two-hour engagement with small-scale miners were taken out of context, emphasizing responsible mining and reporting extortion.
Municipal Chief Executive Frederick Korankye confirmed Frimpong's arrest and current police custody in Tarkwa.
