President John Mahama has extolled the virtues of his Vice, Kwesi Amisssah-Arthur, describing him as someone who does his work with a lot of dignity and does not belong to the flamboyant class of politicians.

Mahama in an interview with the Africa Watch magazine at the Flagstaff House rubbished allegations in a section of the media that the economist is not visible.

“A lot of people are used to flamboyant type of politicians; he’s the reserved type and does his work with dignity. I appreciate the rapport we have, and I have a lot of respect for him,” Mahama said.

“The Vice President is a finance person, and his professional competence is in finance and economic management. He’s my chief adviser and provides me with a lot of technical support on economic issues.

“In other jurisdictions people are used to flamboyant type of politicians; he’s the reserved type. He’s more of a technocrat and concentrates on getting the job done, and he does his work with a lot of dignity,” the President said.

Although there are calls in some quarters for Mahama to change his running mate, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress for the 2016 elections, said Amissah-Arthur is a “loyal and tested person, dependable and trustworthy and a true patriot.”

The former governor of the Bank of Ghana went to pick the presidential filing forms for Mahama at the NDC headquarters; a move political watchers say was a subtle way to endorse Amissah-Arthur as his running mate.
