Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, plans to engage parliament quietly on the controversial Anti-LGBTQ Bill but will speak up if needed.
During a debate for Commonwealth Secretary General candidates, she stressed the importance of working with African governments and civil society to address repressive laws.
This comes as sponsors of the bill, including MP Sam George, plan a protest against the Chief Justice on August 21, urging the bill’s swift transmission to the President.
Botchwey is competing for the Commonwealth Secretary General role, with a focus on human rights and equality.
