Oliver Barker-Vormawor, activist and Democracy Hub convener, has been denied bail by an Accra High Court following his arrest during an anti-galamsey protest.

He was charged with engaging in illegal activities, including taking keys from a police van.

The court, led by Justice Comfort Tasiame, cited the need for further investigation and concerns about potential public unrest, especially since Barker-Vormawor is already facing treason charges.

In contrast, another protester, Felicity Nelson, received bail of 20,000 cedis.

While Barker-Vormawor remains in custody, other protesters have been granted bail, raising issues of civil rights and environmental advocacy in Ghana.
