The Attorney General, Godfred Dame, has endorsed the Chief Justice's request to appoint five more justices to the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, in a letter to President Nana Akufo-Addo, recommended Justice Angelina Mensah Homiah, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Justice Cyra Pamela C.A. Koranteng, and Justice Afia Asare Botwe.
Dame supported the request, emphasizing its constitutional basis and benefits for reducing delays and expenses. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the President and Chief Justice of attempting to shield government officials from future accountability.
Despite the controversy, Sekondi MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer defended the integrity of the judicial appointment process.
