Archbishop Charles Agyinasare of Perez Chapel International has condemned the ongoing illegal mining, or galamsey, for its severe environmental impact and the neglect of future generations.
Speaking on September 8, he criticized both political leaders and Ghanaians for prioritizing short-term gains over long-term consequences.
Agyinasare highlighted the degradation of land and water, the loss of cocoa market share due to mercury contamination, and adverse health effects on communities.
He urged for immediate action and responsible stewardship of Ghana’s resources, drawing comparisons to untouched rivers in other countries as examples of what could be achieved with proper leadership.
