The Asantehene, OtumfuoOsei Tutu II, has commended Samuel Owusu King, the proprietor of Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampen II Nursing Training, a private nursing training institution in Kumasi, for his frantic efforts in the developing of quality nurses for the healthcare delivery in the Ghana.
He said nurses, who are the first point of calls at the health facilities in case of emergencies, when given the right knowledge in health education, will be in a better position to treat patients with the right.
The Asantehene made the commendation at the Mahyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, during the celebration of “Awukude” festival, the management, staff and students of Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampen II Nursing Training, paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The school used the occasion to thank the Asantehene for assisting the institution to get recognition from the National Accreditation Board (NAB) to operate as a recognized nursing training institution in the country.
The school was named after the late Asantehemaa, the mother of Asantehene, Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampen II.
“I am pleased that you are given the students of your school the right kind of knowledge in nursing and believe it will put them on the alert to handle first care treatments to patients when they are posted to other health institutions after their completion,” Asantehene praises Owusu King.
He assured that “I will personally visit the school this year (2019) to acquint myself with the facilities and see how best I can assist the schools. I am also happy that the school has been recognised by the NAB, making it a nursing institution to admit and train nurses and also affiliated to the University of Cape Coast (UCC).”
Mr. Owusu King, addressing the Asantehene through his linguist, thanked him for allowing him to name school after his late mother and promised to bid by all the rules and regulations of its affiliates to make it soar high among other nursing institutions in the country.
He also used the occasion to seek permission from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to name their new Laboratory Center after him, to train of students offering Diploma in Laboratory Technology.
Speaking in an interview with Otec News reporters’ Paulina Bonsu and Adu Gyamfi Priscilla, after the programme, the director for the school Mr. Owusu King, reiterated the school's commitment in training professionals for hospitals in the region and beyond, empowering them to contribute to job creation and the development of Asanteman.
"We remain committed to expanding our footprint as the Nursing College of choice for Senior high school graduates and all who seek to pursue the nursing career" he noted.
Owusu King on behalf of the school presented three boxes of wine and a sheep to the Asantehene as he celebrated the ‘Awukudee’ festival.
The school was established in 2006, is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC), National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX), Nursing and Midwifery Council and London School of Nursing.
Programmes offered by the school include Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Health Assistant, and Diploma in Health Care among others.
The school which is located at Tafo Nhyiaeso, near the Morro Market in the Tafo Municipality is known for training thousands of students for the job market.
