Ashanti Region: FDA raises alarm over growing shisha usage among SHS students

The FDA is alarmed by the rise in shisha use among senior high school students in the Ashanti Region, noting an overall increase in drug abuse that threatens youth.

Shisha smoking, which involves inhaling flavored tobacco, contains addictive nicotine and can be as harmful as cigarettes, according to the WHO. In response, the FDA, with KIDA Network, is intensifying education efforts in schools about the dangers of drug abuse.

Regulatory Officer Prince Osei Owusu urges stronger collaboration with the Ghana Education Service to access more schools.

Students have pledged to avoid drug abuse, while KIDA Network stresses the need for greater public awareness.
