Asonomaso-Nkwanta residents complain about registration process

Residents of Asonomaso-Nkwanta in the Kwabre East Constituency, have raised concerns about the biometric voter registration process in the area and called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to act quickly to put things right.

Since, last Sunday, registration of voters in the community had stopped because of the breakdown of the machines and the people are threatening to hit the streets in a massive demonstration against the Electoral Commission.

Distraught looking Martin Oppong Peprah, a resident, told the GNA that, there is growing anxiety and apprehension among the people.

He said many of them fear they would not be able to register within the fixed period and thereby could become disfranchised.

An official at the District Office of the EC at Mamponteng, who asked not to be named, confirmed the breakdown of the machine and said it had been sent to Accra for repairs.

He could, however, not tell when the exercise would re-start.

At Dumanafo, another community, the registration of voters had halted since Monday, due also to faulty equipment.**
