Pictures of Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Effiduase-Asokore in the Ashanti Region have gone viral for wearing President Mahama’s cap during a campaign walk in his constituency.

Dr. Afriyie, who has been an ardent critic of the Mahama-led administration, explained to Peacefmonline.com that his reason for donning the NDC’s paraphernalia was to preach “peace” ahead of December 7, polls.

According to him, both NDC and NPP supporters must not allow themselves to be swayed by politicians to create mayhem before, during and after the elections.

“I urge all my NDC and NPP brethren to stand up for peace and resist vehemently any attempt for a particular person or party to rig in this expected peaceful and fair election. We should seek a united and stable Ghana after December 7th,” he said.

He also used his Facebook platform to propagate for a peaceful election and urged all state agencies to be neutral in their line of duty.

If all state institutions will remain neutral in this election, then true meaning will be given to our ultimate quest, and cherished value as a people for peace and unity. I will do my part but will the EC, the IGP and the military high command expect its men to do same?”

It was a great honor yesterday to see the people of Effiduase-Asokore constituency walk for peace. I was flanked by NDC clad men. They put on NPP regalia and I also wore an NDC cup with John Mahama the president on.

As an avowed critic of the president and moreover a parliamentary candidate for the largest opposition party I ordinarily won’t do this. However, I did it to symbolize the NPP's belief that, we are a big family with common destiny seeking equal opportunities for all.

I urge all my NDC and NPP brethren to stand up for peace and resist vehemently any attempt for a particular person or party to rig in this expected peaceful and fair election. We should seek a united and stable Ghana after December 7th.

Hence, the need to resist any person, party, agency or security institutions attempt to facilitate rigging and unfairness. For sure, it won’t and can't happen in Effiduase-Asokore!!!

Do you remember our National Anthem..: "God bless our homeland Ghana, And make our nation GREAT and STRONG, BOLD to DEFEND forever the cause of FREEDOM and of RIGHT...."

Fellow Ghanaians Once again lets be bold to defend peace and unity. Let’s be bold to resist any person, party, agency or Security institution that tries to steal our freedom and of right in this elections.

God bless us all.
