Atlantic Lithium has halted operations at its Ewoyaa lithium project in Ghana following a fatal accident.

The Australian company notified authorities and initiated an investigation into the incident. Ewoyaa, Ghana's first lithium venture, secured a 15-year permit in 2023.

Half of its lithium will go to Piedmont Lithium, its major shareholder, for refining. Atlantic plans to produce 3.6 million tonnes of spodumene concentrate over 12 years, making Ewoyaa one of the world’s largest lithium projects.

The company, valued at £123 million ($156 million), aims to resume operations pending investigation outcomes.
