Legal practitioner Bobby Banson has asserted that the Supreme Court is not the only body that can interpret the Constitution, particularly regarding parliamentary issues.
His remarks follow Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, which has been stayed by the Supreme Court.
Banson defended Bagbin, stating that Parliament has the right to manage its own rules and interpret constitutional provisions.
The ruling addressed MPs who planned to run as independents, which Bagbin deemed a violation of constitutional rules.
The affected MPs include Cynthia Morrison, Kwadjo Asante, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, and Peter Kwakye Ackah.
