Bawku conflict: Chief Justice defends court closures in Upper East Region

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has justified the recent closure of seven courts in Ghana’s Upper East Region, a step taken on October 29 due to growing security concerns tied to the Bawku conflict.

Speaking at the launch of the fifth edition of the Manual on Election Adjudication, she expressed regret over the closures, including the Bawku District and Bolgatanga Circuit Courts, which have limited access to justice for locals.

Emphasizing the need for rule of law during election season, Torkornoo urged Ghanaians to support the judicial system’s role in national stability and encouraged thorough engagement with the updated manual for election case guidance.
