The Toll Workers Association of Ghana has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's proposal to reintroduce road tolls, suggesting it was a strategy to secure votes.
In 2022, road tolls were eliminated to reduce traffic congestion. During a tour in the Volta Region, Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer, suggested reintroducing tolls to fund infrastructure development.
He noted the government's lack of funds and proposed that private sector involvement could help.
However, Edward Duncan, the association's General Secretary, argued on Citi FM that this proposal was merely a tactic to gain support from the 800 former toll workers and their networks.
