Nana Akufo-Addo’s nephew, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has urged supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain calm and not be provoked by the delay of the Electoral Commission in announcing results of the just-ended presidential and parliamentary polls.
The leaders of the NPP and their supporters have expressed confidence that their flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo has won the presidential election with some 54 per cent although the EC, a day after voting, has remained silent on the results.
On Thursday, December 8, irate youth of the party massed up at the residence of Mr Akufo-Addo threatening to march to the EC to demand that results be declared.
In an advice to the supporters, Mr Otchere-Darko tweeted: “NPP must keep calm. Do not be provoked. No need to hit the streets in anger. He will concede. He must. He shall”.
Class FM’s Napo Ali Fuseini reported from Mr Akufo-Addo’s residence that the youth, led by a member of the NPP’s communication team, Hopeson Adorye, instead of marching to the EC’s office as they had earlier threatened, walked through the principal streets of Nima and returned to the residence of Mr Akufo-Addo in a party mood to celebrate the victory of their flag bearer.
