Be detectives and not defectives – CID Boss challenges investigators

The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has challenged investigators of security agencies to be detectives and not defectives.

She underscored the need for them to ensure that they are efficient and effective in the discharge of their duties by ensuring that victims get justice each time they approach them or lodge official complaints on matters of crime.

Opening the Detective Training Course 4/2019 at the Detective Training Academy at Tesano in Accra, she called for attitudinal change among investigators towards clients in order not to exacerbate their plight.

“We must change our attitude towards clients and don’t exacerbate the plight of clients because they believe in us that is why they report cases in order for justice to be delivered. Be detectives and not defectives and by ensuring you deliver justice to clients in the discharge of your duties”, she said.

According to her, the days where investigations were poorly done and dockets improperly built, allowing criminals to get off the hook are over. While commending the British Government for sponsoring training programmes for detectives, she expressed hope that they will continue to support her outfit.

In all, ninety (90) participants drawn from the Ghana Police, Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Narcotic Control Board (NACOB), Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Military Police and Customs are attending the 8-week intensive programme.

She therefore took the opportunity to encourage them to give off their best in the course of study and ensure that they become agents of change for the service.
