North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is working on a private member's bill to stop legislators and government officials from buying state assets.
He believes that public officials should manage, not benefit from, state assets. Ablakwa plans to introduce the bill in the eighth Parliament and urged President Akufo-Addo to support it.
Despite current laws against conflicts of interest, Ablakwa argues that loopholes exist. His proposal aims for clear legislation to ban politicians from exploiting these grey areas.
Ablakwa also announced a protest against the sale of four Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) hotels to Rock City Hotel Limited, owned by Minister of Agriculture Bryan Acheampong.
