Border personnel charged to be vigilant on Ebola disease

Mr. Fritz Bafour, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Ebola prevention at Ghana’s borders, has charged security personnel and port nurses to be vigilant to ensure that the disease does not spread into the country.

He said the disease could threaten the development of the country and it would be necessary for government to put up safety measures to ensure that the country prevent the disease, especially at its borders.

Mr. Bafour made the call during a visit to the Misiga and Mognori Immigration check points near Bawku on Thursday, to obtain firsthand information on measures being put in place to ensure that the viral disease was kept away from the country.

He was accompanied by members of the select committee to access the situation in the area, as reports have earlier indicated that the Ebola disease was reported in the Bawku area which turned out to be untrue.

The team was also briefed by the security agencies operating in the area on the security situation which called for the supply of adequate logistics including transport and accommodation to enable them to deliver.
