‘Breaking news journalism’ dangerous – Dampare to journalists

Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has urged the media to verify and cross-check information before publication, warning that unverified news and misinformation can harm society.

Speaking at the Ghana Report summit in Accra on August 1, 2024, he highlighted the dangers of disinformation and misinformation, labeling them as national security threats that need to be addressed urgently.

He called for a collective effort to combat these issues and criticized the public's contradictory stance of calling for action while resisting law enforcement efforts.

Dr. Dampare emphasized the need for a mindset change towards more humane and responsible journalism and societal behavior.
