A Vice Chairperson of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Anita Desoso has urged the spokesperson of the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka to cease commenting on the bribery allegation that has hit Parliament.
According to him, the manner in which Farouk Muniru, Muntaka’s aide is talking will further anger the teeming members of the NDC party who are already incensed over the alleged involvement of Hon. Muntaka in the shameful bribery saga.
An NDC MP for Bawku, Mahama Ayariga accused his colleague MP, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, of being a conduit through which the Minister-designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko, attempted bribing members on the Appointment Committee to ensure his approval after his vetting.
Hon. Ayariga allegedly that the Minority Chief Whip gave him and other members GH?3,000.00 thinking it was their sitting allowance which had earlier been promised them, but returned the money after they found out that the money was a bribe from the Minister-designate for Energy.
Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has since then denied ever giving any money to Mahama Ayariga.
Others such as the NDC Eastern Regional Chairman, Bismark Tawiah Boateng has urged Hon. Muntaka to resign his position as a leader in Parliament since his alleged involvement in a bribery scandal has brought huge shame to the party and the high office that he occupies.
But Farouk Muniru has mounted a strong defence of his boss, insisting that his hands are clean and will not resign his position any day.
However, Anita Desoso in an interview with Kasapa News stated that Farouk Muniru will do himself and his boss a lot of good if keeps mute on the matter.
“At the moment a lot of party members are very angry, so the spokesperson must not aggravate the situation, I wish he was quiet. Just as Muntaka is quiet on the matter, he should also do same so that the anger level of party members will reduce. We beg party supporters…though the bribery scandal is a disgrace and very painful they should keep their cool as the party awaits the Committee’s report, following which the party will also take its decision.”
