CSE: Presidency needs Common Sense Education – Sam George

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has castigated the Presidency of Ghana over plans by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to include Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in the syllabus for basic schools.

In a fierce criticism of the Presidency on Facebook, sighted by mynewsgh.com, the vocal MP argued that occupants of the Flagstaff House should be taught “Common Sense Education”, insisting the instead of Comprehensive Sexuality Education( CSE), we should have Common Sense Education ( CSE) taught first to the Flagstaff House.

The MP has also stated that no school within his constituency will teach the CSE to pupils.

There is widespread opposition to plans to introduce CSE to pupils in basic schools in Ghana. But proponents defend it strongly, arguing that it will empower pupils against sexual harassment.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has however stated that the introduction of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education( CSE), will not open the floodgates for lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender as claimed by a section of the public.

Cassandra Twum Ampofo who is the Head of Public Affairs of GES noted that, the state agency “will not under any circumstance implement any programme which goes contrarily to the legal, cultural norms, values and beliefs of the Ghanaian people.”
