The Odikro of Antoa-Krobo in the Kwabre East Municipality of Ashanti region, Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I, is urging Ghanaians to embrace the introduction of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in schools.

He lauded the concept, arguing that it will help minimize rape cases, defilement and teenage pregnancy.

Nana Yaw Adom Owusu insists CSE should be considered as one of the best initiatives to happen in the educational sector and wants it implemented without delay.

Many Ghanaians, through traditional and social media, have expressed displeasure and kicked against an attempt by government to introduce comprehensive sexuality education into the new curriculum for basic schools in the country.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as well as Ghana Education Service (GES), have vehemently denied any move to introduce CSE into the curriculum.

Nonetheless, pressure groups and faith-based organisations like the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) have called on government to as a matter of urgency to terminate any plans to roll out the CSE.

But the Odikro of Antoa-Krobo said those criticizing the initiative are doing it out of ignorance.

“It will help the children know much about sexual activities that will enable them protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies and other sex-related issues”.

Nana Yaw Adom Owusu further stated, “CSE will reduce rape and teenage pregnancy so Ghanaians must welcome the idea and support it.”

He buttressed his claims, stating it will help students to nurture positive attitudes and values including respect for self-esteem, non-judgmental attitudes, and sense of responsibility concerning their sexual and reproductive health.
