The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, along with religious and professional groups, is organizing an Environmental Prayer Protest Walk today, October 10, to raise awareness about the destructive impact of illegal mining (galamsey).
The protest calls for urgent government action, including declaring a state of emergency in areas affected by galamsey, particularly near water bodies and forests.
Starting at 10:00 AM at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, participants will march through key Accra landmarks before presenting a petition to President Akufo-Addo.
The event seeks immediate interventions to stop environmental degradation and promote sustainable development.
