Tensions have erupted at the Volta Regional Secretariat of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) after the National Executive Committee (NEC) attempted to remove former executives of Ho Branch 2, who have refused to vacate their positions for over two years despite the election of new leaders in 2022.
This morning, NEC’s team clashed with individuals, including former 2nd Trustee Felix Kpor, who tried to block their access to the office, leading to police intervention.
The background dispute began when former Chairman Michael Sonkro lost his seat in the 2022 election.
However, four members of his administration rejected the outcome and refused to hand over.
NEC formally dismissed them in 2023, but the standoff continues, with all parties now seeking a resolution with the Volta Regional Police Command.
