Charlotte Osei’s removal by Akufo-Addo chipped away trust in EC – Prof Agyeman-Duah

Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah, a former UN Governance Advisor, has expressed concern over former Electoral Commission (EC) Chair Charlotte Osei’s dismissal, which he believes set a damaging precedent for the EC’s credibility.

He argues that the 2018 removal, prompted by a single petition and subsequent presidential action, has fostered public mistrust, portraying the EC as susceptible to political influence.

The latest Afrobarometer survey shows public trust in the EC has dropped to 28%, a significant fall from 59% in 2012, with perceptions of corruption rising.

Agyeman-Duah suggests this lingering mistrust challenges the EC’s credibility ahead of the December elections.
