Chief Justice calls for urgent action against galamsey and sand winning

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has called for urgent action against illegal environmental activities like galamsey and sand winning, which are harming Ghana’s environment.

Speaking at the 2024 Eve International Foundation Women’s Conference, she urged women leaders to advocate for better land and environmental management, highlighting the impunity and disorder behind these activities.

Justice Torkornoo emphasized the need for sustainable development and respect for the rule of law to ensure a thriving future for women.

The conference also celebrated the passage of the Gender Equity Act 2024 as a key victory in advancing gender equality in Ghana.
