Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo has inaugurated 12 new courts dedicated to small claims and debt recovery to address a surge in cases, largely due to Bills MicroCredit.

Eight courts are in Greater Accra and four are in the Ashanti Region.

The spike in cases, often involving amounts less than GHC 5,000, had overwhelmed district courts.

These new courts will operate afternoons and Saturdays to expedite resolutions.

Chief Justice Torkonoo thanked Bills MicroCredit for their support, while CEO Richard Quaye noted that the courts would help manage the 30,000 cases filed by his company, improving the efficiency of case resolution.
