Coronavirus: Govt has not received any cure from Madagascar - Oppong Nkrumah clarifies

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has denied reports that the government of Ghana has received some medicinal supplies from Madagascar to cure coronavirus.

The Minister insists that the Southeastern African country only reached out to Ghana just like many other countries to patronize their supposed remedy for the deadly virus.

Read full article“There are also local offers, local Ghanaians who say they have some sort of preparations that they believe can cure…So I just want to be clear that reports that we have received and we are testing drugs from Madagascar is incorrect.”

He explained that the information government put out there, was that Madagascar has reached out to “us with their supposed or suggested cure and that we will test it through the FDA and Center for Plants and Medicine before making a decision.”

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that the same process goes for locals who have reached out to government with a cure. According to him, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Center for Plants and Medicine will have them tested and approve before more editions are made.

“The Center for Plants and Medicine and the FDA will test all these supposed cures made available and after those tests have been done, editions can be made by the clinicians.” He told journalists at the press conference.

Meanwhile, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 stand at 6,269, according to the latest update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The update also indicated 125 more recoveries, raising the number of recoveries to 1,898.
