Coronavirus: Minority just making unnecessary noise on Govt’s expenditure – Okyem Aboagye

Member of Parliament (MP) for Batama Constituency, Daniel Okyem Aboagye has said that the minority’s call on the Auditor General to investigate how funds for the COVID 19 pandemic were spent during the lockdown, is a hasty call.

Speaking to Captain Smart on “An?pa B?fo?” on Angel FM, the ranking member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, said the Auditor General by default will definitely look into the expenditures of such budgets.

“The minority is rushing. They just want to be heard. Because, they know by default that the Auditor General always run audits for every public expenditure,” he said.

He further revealed that, the minority are aware that such issues are either discussed at the committee level or on the floor of Parliament.

“Captain, such issues are also discussed at the committee level, and also at the big house, the floor of Parliament. Hence, I don’t think the minority have any cause for alarm. They are only making unnecessary noises, so Ghanaians will know they are working”, he added

He said this while reacting to the minority’s claim that an amount of Two Hundred and Eighty million Ghana cedis (GHC280,000,000) was spent during the COVID 19 lockdown.

To them, the amount is quite outrageous and so have called on the Auditor General to look into what went into the expenditures.

Cassiel Ato Hayford, a ranking member of the finance committee of Parliament made the revelation and asked the Auditor General to conduct the investigations.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo introduced the lockdown as part of efforts to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
