Coup saga: Kofi Boakye confirms BNI invitation

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye, has confirmed that he was invited by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) over his supposed role in the alleged coup plot.

In a phone interview with Daily Guide, COP Kofi Boakye said the meeting was short and brief.

It emerged few days ago that a senior Commissioner of Police (COP) had been picked up by a combined team of National Security and Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) operatives, for his alleged involvement in an elaborate plot to destabilise the country.

According to sources, the said COP is alleged to have been in close contact with the alleged coup plotters and had been designated to read out a broadcast to the nation after the takeover of government machinery.

However, Daily Guide reported that a "surprised" Kofi Boakye said it was a standard procedure that “when a person’s name is mentioned in a message as in robbery, coup or even terrorism that person should be invited.”

Denying his involvement in the scheme, COP Boakye refuted reports that he was in police custody.

“It must be noted that I have absolutely nothing to do with coup plot directly or indirectly for the avoidance of doubt.”

“I was neither arrested nor am I on bail. There is nothing like what is being said,” he added.
