Daily consumers of marijuana outnumber daily drinkers in US – Report

A study published in the journal Addiction has revealed that daily or near-daily cannabis use in the U.S. now surpasses daily alcohol consumption. In 2022, there were an estimated 17.7 million daily cannabis users compared to 14.7 million daily drinkers.

This marks a significant increase from 1992 when less than one million reported daily cannabis use.

Dr. Brooke Worster attributes the rise to reduced stigma and the burgeoning legal cannabis market. Despite state-level legalization, the federal government has resisted decriminalization but recently moved to reclassify cannabis to a less severe category.

Concerns remain about cannabis-use disorder, particularly among younger adults.
