Democracy Hub: Deputy AG criticizes lawyers for not disclosing pregnant protester’s condition

The Office of the Attorney General has criticized the legal team of Vera, a pregnant protester, for failing to inform the court of her pregnancy during her bail hearing.

Vera, who is four months pregnant, was remanded in custody for two weeks after being arrested during a Democracy Hub protest.

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah explained that while the law requires pregnancy disclosure during sentencing, it is not mandatory during bail applications.

He emphasized that informing the court could have influenced the decision and faulted the defense counsel for not presenting this crucial information.
