Former Mininster for Trades and Industry, Dr. Ekow Spio-Grabrah who has expressed interest to contest for the flagbearership position of the National Democratic Congress has cautioned the executives of the party not to gamble with the party.
He says, the party is not for sale.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Programme, Mr. Spio-Garbrah reiterated that NDC is financially handicap and cannot quote such huge amount of money for aspirants to pay in order to lead the party.
“If care is not taken the party will continue to be in opposition if we decide to tow the lines of the NPP". This is unacceptable and I think money should not be used as criteria to kick some of us from the race.”
“Paying the money is not the problem but the negative effect of what we are doing especially when the party decides to go for a loan, they will think otherwise. This is very dangerous for the party.
He therefore advised the executives not to allow money to be use as the bases for the elections.
“We must not behave as if we live in isolation. We do not even know what went into this. It is out of line for a social democratic party,” he said, and asked how much the other political parties charged in previous congresses, conferences and primaries.
To suddenly jump to that figure, he stressed, was baffling and the logic ought to make sense to the Ghanaian electorate.
